Thrissur: Three years have passed since the mysterious death of Shruthi, daughter of Mullassery natives Subramaniyan and Sreedevi. Yet, the police are still groping in the dark.

Shruthi was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her husband’s house in Anthikkad on the 14th day of their marriage. Although the police registered a case and began probe, no further progress has taken place till now.

Meanwhile, allegations are rife that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s response in the Assembly, when asked about the progress of the investigation, is full of contradiction.

When Murali Perunelly MLA asked about the case, Vijayan said, “The case is being investigated by the Crime Branch (CB). On the basis of the complaint that Shruthi's death was due to the mental torture by her husband's family members, her husband Kiran and mother-in-law Draupathi have been named first and second accused in the case.”

According to police records, the name of Shruthi’s husband is Arun. However, her husband's name is Kiran in the Chief Minister's records. Shruthi's parents believe that the chief minister was given the wrong name in an attempt to mislead the investigation.

Shruthi, who was a B.Tech student, got married on December 22, 2019. Her parents came to know about her death on January 6, 2020 around 9 pm.

According to the post mortem report, issued by Thrissur Medical College, suffocation is the cause of death.

The case was handed over to the CB after Shruthi’s parents lodged a complaint with the chief minister. Following which, Arun and Draupathi were arrested by the CB officials.
