Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant development regarding the case of a minor girl found hanging inside the Women's Arabic College in Balaramapuram, the Poonthura police arrested a man on Wednesday under POCSO charges after the autopsy report confirmed the victim had suffered sexual assault.

The accused has been identified as Hashim Khan (20), a native of Beemapally, Thiruvananthapuram. According to preliminary assumptions, Khan has no links with the Arabic College. He was named accused in the case after the autopsy report confirmed sexual assault.

The deceased, Asmiya Mol, a native of Vallakkadavu, was found hanging at the college earlier this month. Following this, the girl’s family alleged mystery over the death. The case was investigated by a special team led by Neyyattinkara ASP.

Reportedly, the girl had called her parents alleging mental harassment in the college and asked them to take her back home. Later, when her mother reached the institution, she came to know about her daughter’s death.
