Death of class 8 student in Kannur: Abetment of suicide charges against two teachers

Kannur: Kerala Police have slapped abetment of suicide charges on two teachers of Peralassery AKG Government Higher Secondary School over the death of a student of the institute.

Riya Praveen, a class eight student at the school, was found dead in her house on Thursday last week. The police found a suicide note in which she blamed the teachers for her extreme step.

Class in-charge teacher Soja, physical trainer Ragesh allegedly chided Riya and her friends for painting the desk and wall with pen ink which led to the suicide of the student, the suicide note stated, it is learnt. She was reportedly desolated by the rebuke of the teacher. Police had questioned the teachers before charging them in the case.

The State Human Rights Commission has also sought a report from the police on the matter.
