Death of accused remanded in Peerumedu sub jail: 8 cops transferred
Idukki: As many as eight police officers, including the CI, have been transferred in connection with the death of an accused remanded at Peerumedu sub jail. The police officers were transferred by the district police chief pending inquiry.
Rajkumar, an accused in a financial fraud case had died in custody on June 21. Rajkumar is the primary accused in the case pertaining to swindling several lakhs of rupees using the cover of a private finance company at Thookkupalam in Nedungandam.
According to police, Rajkumar was taken into custody on June 15. However, relatives and local residents alleged that Rajkumar was taken into custody along with two other accused on June 12.
The transfer of police officials comes at a time when there is allegation that Rajkumar’s was a case of custodial death.
Rajkumar’s post mortem report form Kottayam medical college had found injuries below the knees. According to the report, primary cause of death was pneumonia infection. However, relatives alleged that police brutality resulted in Rajkumar’s death.
