Sabarimala: Police officials deployed on duty at Sabarimala temple alleged lack of facilities to check the documents of pilgrims arriving after booking their slots via virtual queue.

Devaswom board has set up only 20 counters, though the police department demanded 25 counters. The long queues of pilgrims formed near the counters can be avoided only by setting up more counters.

Only a single BSNL connection has been allotted to the police here. All 20 computers in the counters are operating with this connection. Hence, slow internet would often delay spot booking and verification of identity cards.

The battery and inverter given to police are also redundant.

The control of the virtual queue has been handed over to the devaswom board as per court order. A few devaswom employees were given training following this. However, police were deployed later by pointing out the shortage of devaswom staff. Currently, most of the equipment used here belong to the police department. The police officials on duty in Sabarimala informed that the department is striving to ease the pilgrims’ journey.
