Kasaragod: Two sisters were miraculously saved by a 15-year-old girl here in Koliyadukkam. B Nandana and B Niranjana, daughters of Koliyadukkam native B Aravindakshan and K Suma were saved from drowning by the timely intervention of their friend Sreedurga Das.

The four-member gang was heading home through a shortcut after dance class. Niranjana fell into the stream nearby in the strong rains and winds. The stream was filled following the heavy rains and had strong currents. Nandana jumped into the stream to save her sister, but both sisters who don’t know swimming struggled to stay afloat and started drowning. Sreedurga Das rose to the occasion and leapt into the water without so much as another thought. Though Gayathri Das was standing there shocked by the series of events, she extended her umbrella toward the trio trapped in the stream.

The stream that is usually very shallow was overflowing that day. The braveheart Sreedurga Das is the daughter of K V Thulasidas and Sumitha. She is a class 10 student at Government Higher Secondary School, Chemnad. Nandana is a class 9 student at the same school. Her sister Niranjana and Gayathri Das are class 6 students at GUPS Koliyadukkam. Gayathri Das is the daughter of K V Haridas and C V Vidhubala.
