Deadline for vacating Maradu flats extended to Sunday
KochI: The deadline given by the Maradu municipality for evicting the controversial flats will end on Sunday. The municipality is likely to take further action based on government direction.
Meanwhile, the flat owners are hopeful of the Governor intervening in the issue. Several political parties had visited the residents on Saturday and offered support.
The eviction notice issued by the Maradu municipality had warned that it would take action, as per the powers entrusted to the secretary, without further notice. According to the notice issued on September 10, the deadline for leaving the flats was Saturday. However, the deadline was extended for another day as the notice was distributed a day after it was issued.
Only the owners of Kayaloram flats had responded to the municipality’s eviction notice. Stating that the notice was in violation of their fundamental right to life, the owners said they will not leave no matter what. The flat owners are planning to move the high court against the eviction notice.
