Payyannur: Questions about the safety of postal items are rising after a dead snake was found inside a mail bag at Payyannur post office here the other day. Reportedly, the mail bag, which was brought via Malabar Express, was taken directly to the post office.
Earlier, allegations were raised that poor quality and outdated sacks were being used to transport postal items. However, the authorities failed to take action.
As per norms, postal items should be kept in thick blue covers of the postal department. However, it has been alleged that even fertilizer bags, with holes, are used for the purpose.
According to office employees, the snake would have entered the mail bag through a hole and died later.
