Dead chicken kept for sale in Kerala under code name ‘M’

Thiruvananthapuram: Dead chickens are still being sold to catering units and hotels across Kerala, a Mathrubhumi News investigation shows.

The chickens are being brought to Kerala from neighbouring states. Shop owners are not informed if it was dead chicken or not.

The rate of chicken is lower in neighbouring states. Some dealers in Kerala buy dead chickens for a mere Rs 50 and sell them to hotels and catering units as fresh cut.

Around 20 dead chickens per load arrive in Kerala. They are sold under the code name ‘M’.

Earlier, the food safety department had closed down some shops that were selling dead chicken. However, the action has not stopped the trend.
