Thampanoor Satheesh, general secretary of District Congress Committee (DCC), has accused MP Shashi Tharoor loyalists in the party of thrashing him. The incident happened after the party unit conference was held on Sunday to review preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to reports, Satheesh opposed the participation of Tharoor’s staffers in the conference and argued that they are the ones who keep the latter at bay from the public. Reportedly, after the conference, Satheesh was thrashed by around 10 persons.
According to Satheesh, there was a verbal altercation between him and Shashi Tharoor's personal staff member Praveen, which turned into a physical altercation when other supporters of Tharoor joined in. The situation was eventually diffused when senior leaders arrived at the DCC office and calmed everyone down.
Satheesh said that he would lodge a complaint with the DCC president and KPCC leadership over the issue. DCC president Palode Ravi, Congress leaders VS Sivakumar and Sarath Chandra Prasad also attended the meeting.
However, Palode Ravi disputed the claim that a physical altercation took place at the DCC office, stating that Satheesh had already left before the end of the meeting. Ravi also mentioned that Tharoor and his staff only returned to the office after attending a meeting in Kazhakkoottam later in the evening.
