Dairy farming unit at Ernakulam district jail becomes operational

Ernakulam: The dairy farming unit at district jail in Kakkanad here has become operational. Meeting the milk requirements of the jail is the prime aim.

However, the public will be able to purchase milk through the special counter at the jail in near future.

Two vechur breed cows are being reared in the jail.

The cowshed has been built under the ‘Jeevani’ project. While the cows were provided by the Kerala Agricultural University Agronomic Research Station, Chalakudy.

The jail already has been cultivating fodder for the cattle.
