Rains in Kerala to continue, yellow alert in 8 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted that low-pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal by Thursday and rains in Kerala are expected to continue in the coming days too.

According to IMD, Bay of Bengal is suspected to witness the first cyclone of the season. If cyclone occurs it will be named as Sitrang(Thailand origin name).

Meanwhile, low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify by October 22 after covering west-north-west regions. Following that, it is likely to form as a cyclone over centre-west region of Bay of Bengal. However, the direction of wind has not been forecast.

IMD has issued yellow alert for eight districts for Thursday. They are Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
