Fathima Nida, Cycle polo team from Kerala
Alappuzha: The family of Fathima Nida, the National Cycle Polo player from Alappuzha, who died due to alleged food poisoning in Nagpur, learnt the death of their daughter from television news.
Fathima Nida’s father Shihabuddin, who is a driver, was informed that his daughter was in critical condition. Soon he went to Kochi airport to reach Nagpur as soon as possible. However, he watched the death news of his daughter while news channels broke it while he was at the airport. The passengers at the airport were distraught by seeing the mourning father.
Shihabuddin had not informed his wife Ansila and son Mohammed Nabeel about the condition of Nida. The unexpected tragedy which they came to know from a television channel shook the family.
Former captain of Indian Cycle Polo team P Sivakumar alleged that the organisers of National Cycle Polo Championship refrained from providing accommodation for the Kerala team. The temporary facilities were set up at the offices and other rooms of the organisation, said Sivakumar.
When informed, PT Usha, MP, had promised to discuss the issue with the Minister for Sports on Thursday and take necessary action.
Meanwhile, Fathima Nida was hospitalised on Thursday when she suffered nausea and vomiting. Soon her health deteriorated and succumbed.
