Kochi: The child illegally adopted by furnishing a fake birth certificate in Kalamassery will remain in the custody of Child Welfare Committee (CWC). A decision was taken to temporarily halt the adoption procedures after the child's biological parents informed they could take care of the child in future.

The biological parents issued a statement by appearing before CWC on Sunday. Financial struggle forced them to allow a Thripunithura couple to adopt the child. They claimed that they are hopeful they could raise the child in the future.

However, the biological parents said they do not have financial stability to raise the child as of now. Therefore, they requested that the child remain in CWC's care. As a result, CWC temporarily halted the child's adoption procedures.

Meanwhile, police continue to probe the case. Anilkumar, the prime accused in the case for fabricating the child's birth certificate, was produced before the court on Saturday.
