Thiruvananthapuram: Customs department has filed a complaint against the circular released by Jail DGP denying permission for customs officials to be present when guests visit Swapna Suresh at the jail. The complaint has been forwarded to jail department and COFEPOSA board

The jail department had ended the practice of informing Customs department whenever a guest arrives at the jail to visit one of the prisoners through the circular. However, customs department stated that their presence should be allowed as Swapna Suresh has threats to her life. The circular was released at a time when the jail department approached the High Court against customs department.

Customs department argued that Swapna Suresh has threats issued against her life after she revealed the names of important personalities in the Gold and Dollar smuggling cases. Hence, the department wants to be informed whenever guests visit Swapna in the jail. Customs has sought the legal advice to approach court in this regard.
