Customs suspects Sivasankar involved in smuggling dollars; arrest may happen
Thiruvananthapuram: The Customs officials plan to arrest M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, here on Friday evening, says a report. It is learned that the officials have initiated action to record his arrest and produce him before the magistrate after taking him to Kochi. According to reports, he was booked for his involvement in the dollar smuggling case.
Customs has recovered evidence to prove that Sivasankar helped accused Swapna Suresh to illegally transport US dollar 1.90 lakh from Kerala to abroad. The officials have recorded statements of many people regarding this.
It is reported that the bank officials told customs that they handed over the money in dollars to Swapna due to pressure from VIPs. This statement has put Sivasankar on trap.
It is hinted that Customs has taken action to arrest Sivasankar and register FIR against him after recording his statement. Enforcement Directorate has also raised similar questions in this regard to the IAS official.
Customs has been planning to book Sivasankar over his involvement in gold smuggling case, locker transactions and dollar smuggling.
It is learnt that Sivasankar will seek anticipatory bail in the case registered by customs.
Meanwhile, Sivasankar who is currently at the hospital has undergone an angiogram test. According to the test results, he is not suffering from any serious health issues. The hospital sources revealed that he will continue to remain under observation. The hospital will reveal details on his heath through their official medical bulletin.
