Customs issues fresh summons to Speaker’s assistant private secretary in residential address
Kochi: The Customs has issued a fresh summons to Speaker’s assistant private secretary K Ayyappan for the interrogation related to dollar smuggling case. This time, the Customs has served the notice to the residential address of the official.
K Ayyappan has been asked to appear for the interrogation on Friday. It is for the third time the Customs has summoned Ayyappan for the interrogation.
Earlier, the notice was issued in his office address. But the assembly secretary has sent a letter to the Customs informing that they must seek permission of the Speaker to interrogate his staff.
The letter also pointed out that the assistant private secretary holds legislative immunity. Following this, the customs has issued a fresh summons in the residential address of K Ayyappan.
Customs has taken a stance that permission of the Speaker is not mandatory to interrogate his assistant private secretary. They noted that the notice was served as per the central government act and that rule 165 is not applicable to the Speaker’s personal staff.
In the letter to Customs, the assembly secretary noted that the Speaker's permission is required to question someone who comes under the assembly Secretariat.
