Customs interrogate Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in dollar smuggling case
Thiruvananthapuram: The Customs questioned Kerala Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in connection with the dollar smuggling case. The Speaker was questioned at his official residence here on Friday.
Though a notice was served to him to appear at Customs office in Kochi on Thursday, Sreeramakrishnan didn’t appear citing medical reasons. Following this, the Customs arrived at his residence on Friday.
As per reports, the interrogation lasted over 4 hours and was led by Customs superintendent. It is also reported that the questioning may continue on Sunday.
The Customs questioned Speaker at his home considering his constitutional post.
The Speaker was questioned based on the statement of the accused in gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh. The case pertains to smuggling of dollar through UAE Consul General and investing in gulf countries.
The Customs had served notice to the Speaker for interrogation three times prior to this. However, he didn’t appear before the Customs office alleging various reasons.
