Custodial torture reported again in Nedumkandam police station
Thodupuzha: Man who was summoned to Nedumkandam police station following a family dispute has alleged that he was brutally beaten up by the police in the station. The new allegation of custodial torture by police was raised by Hakkim. He was also in custody at the Nedumkandam police station, when Rajkumar who allegedly died of custodial torture, was in the station.
Hakkim said he had heard of cries of someone from the lock-up.
Hakkim’s mother also alleged that police beat her son in front of her. Hakkim who was released after 16 days is under treatment.
“Police summoned to the station and beat me after initiating a medical assessment. During the torture I was holding on to a grill. And they continued beating saying the grill was bend because of me. I was threatened to be imprisoned after charging non-bailable case if I don’t repair the grill”, said Hakkim.
He also said that someone was being beaten up inside the lock-up at that time and he was screaming.
Hakkim’s mother said that she tried to stop them from beating him saying that Hakkim was diabetic and BP patient. But they didn’t listen to her. She also said they didn’t give him water when he pleaded for it.
