Crowds throng Kannur airport; Restriction to public entry from Wednesday
Mattannur: Preparations are in full swing at Kannur International Airport ahead of the inauguration on December 9. Kannur range IG Balram Kumar Upadyaya visited the airport to review the security arrangements here. He held talks with Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) authority during the visit.
The meeting also examined the need to establish more security arrangements in the airport as huge number of visitors are arriving at the airport. It is learned that the security officials are struggling to control the crowd here.
Meanwhile, customs and immigration officials will carry out an inspection at the airport on Tuesday as part of the establishment of the wing here.
However, KIAL Managing Director V Thulasi Das will hold a meeting with representatives of various aircraft companies on Tuesday. It is reported that along with Air India, Indigo and Go Air, other companies which expressed interest to start service in Kannur airport will also attend the meeting.
A decision will be taken regarding the air routes in which services will be operated from KIAL.
Restriction to public entry from Wednesday
The authority has decided to restrict the entry of public to the airport. Public entry will be restricted in the coming days and entry will be given to only selected groups from Wednesday. People in Keezhallur panchayat and Mattannur municipality will have entry on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, only school students will be allowed to enter the airport.
KIAL executive director requested all to cooperate with the restriction.
The authority has closed public entry to the airport on Monday and Tuesday as inspection of customs and immigration wings is in progress.
The airport witnessed a huge rush of people as the authority opened it for public visit from October 5.
