Kasaragod: The investigation into the murder of DYFI activist Ouf Abdul Rahman will be handed over to the Crime Branch. The arrest of Muslim Youth League activists Irshad, Hassan and Ashir will be recorded on Friday. However, the official order regarding the same is yet to be released.

Meanwhile, police stated that the incident was a political murder. The SP said that a clash that took place on vote counting day led to the murder.

Muslim League Kanhangad Municipal Secretary Irshad is the prime accused in the case. Irshad has admitted to the crime during interrogation. Police also revealed that Irshad was accompanied by 3 others in the crime and that Issahak, who was also taken into custody, was not involved in the crime.

Issahak had stated that it was Irshad who stabbed Abdul Rahman to death. The post mortem report ruled that an 8 cm deep cut on the right side of the victim’s chest is what caused his death.

It is suspected that the murder was caused by the friction that developed after the Muslim League candidate lost the LSG polls.

The attacks started in the locality after LDF won ward number 35 of Kanhangad Municipality. Earlier, Muslim Youth League activists had hurled stones at LDF workers including the candidate, while they were celebrating the poll victory. Wednesday’s incident is also a continuation of this attack.
