Crime branch to probe Sraddha suicide, students ‘temporarily’ suspend protest

Kottayam: The death of Shraddha Satheesh, a student of Amal Jyothi Engineering College, Kanjirapally, will be investigated by the crime branch of Kerala police under a DySP.

Higher education minister R Bindu assured that no action would be taken against the students who led the strike. The minister made this statement after engaging in discussions with students, management, and teachers concerning Shraddha's suicide.

Currently, no action will be taken against the Head of the Department (HOD) as demanded by the students. If any evidence arises during the investigation, appropriate measures will be taken accordingly. The management will intimate with the church leadership to decide on the hostel warden. The minister also mentioned plans to strengthen the students' council.

The students have temporarily suspended their strike but expressed dissatisfaction. They will cooperate with the investigation, although their demands including the removal of the HOD and hostel warden were not met.

Minister VN Vasavan was also present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the minister avoided addressing the question regarding the Maharaja’s College issue.
