Acid attack: Woman succumbs to injuries; daughter in critical condition

Ambalavayal: A young woman who was undergoing treatment succumbed to injuries on Saturday after her husband hurled acid at her. The deceased has been identified as Lijitha, 32, hailing from Iritti in Kannur.

Sanil Kumar, 38, hurled acid at Lijitha and his daughter on January 15. Later, he committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Their daughter Alakananda (10) is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

The incident happened at a shop owned by Lijitha near Ambalavayal Phantom Rock. After hurling acid at his wife and daughter, the accused absconded from the scene. Later, the injured were shifted to Kottayam Medical College by the locals.

Lijitha and Sanal were not staying together for some time. It is learned that Sanal created a commotion on Friday night at her house. Following this, Lijitha complained to police on January 15.

Later, Sanal was found dead after being hit by a train at Koduvalli near Thalassery railway station. The initial conclusion of the police was that it was a suicide.
