CPM suspends Neyyattinkara councillor accused of robbing elderly woman of all her belongings

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM suspended a Neyyattinkara municipality councillor from the party following allegations of cheating.

Sujin, Thavaravila councillor, is accused of robbing a woman of 12.5 cents of land, 17 sovereigns of gold and Rs 2 lakh.

Baby, the complainant, alleged that Sujin and his wife Geethu offered to take care of her since the 78-year-old was living alone. Her relatives had passed away.

Sujin, along with his wife, child and in-laws, shifted to the house of Baby in February 2021. Baby said Geethu began to use the gold she owned, and Sujin later pledged it. They also took Rs 2 lakh from her and land ownership was changed to Geethu’s name, she said. Baby added that they left the house after eight months and did not return the money, gold or land.

Even though she requested the return of her property, it was of no use. She then approached the municipality chairperson. However, Sujin did not listen to him, she alleged.
