Kozhencherry: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) suspended Pulimukku branch secretary Arun Mathew over allegations of demanding money from sand miners for the party's Janakeeya Prathirodha Jatha led by state secretary MV Govindan.

The party reportedly took action after phone recording of a call, in which Mathew allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from a sand miner, began circulating on social media last week. Despite Mathew's denial that the recording was forged, the party suspended him from all positions.

Area committee secretary attended the local committee meeting that decided on action against Arun.
