Kayamkulam: CPM suspended Alappuzha district panchayat vice president and Kayamkulam area committee member Bibin C Babu, following a complaint of domestic violence lodged by his wife. The Kayamkulam area committee has decided to suspend Bibin for a period of six months.

Two months ago, Bibin's wife sought treatment at Haripad Taluk Hospital after being physically assaulted by him. Although the police arrived at the hospital, she declined to give a statement. Later, criticisms surfaced that the party had coerced her not to file an official complaint against Bibin. Nevertheless, she submitted a complaint to the area committee, district secretary, and the Chief Minister's Office.

As per the directives of the CPM district leadership, the area centre sought details from the complainant.

Party state secretary MV Govindan had attended the district secretariat meeting the other day to resolve the fuming issues and infighting in Alappuzha faction.
