Pullad: A police officer has allegedly shoved a CPM area committee member during a temple possession in Pathanamthitta on Saturday.

AK Santhosh Kumar (55), area committee member from Eraviperoor, was hospitalised after he was pushed to the ground by SI Edward Gladwyn of Koipuram Police Station. Following this, CPM held a march to the police station demanding action against the officer. A team led by Thiruvalla DySP Rajappan stopped the protestors.

The incident happened on Saturday evening when a temple procession from Prapanjamoorthi temple in Pulikallumpurath arrived at Pulladu junction. Police officials who arrived at the spot refused to halt traffic for the procession to cross the road.

The temple authorities became furious and questioned SI Edward Gladwyn's order. Following this, a verbal spat ensued. Some temple authorities tried to use force against the police, leading to SI Edward Gladwyn shoving Santhosh, who has impairment on his legs, to the ground while he was conversing with him. The onlookers were furious with police action and protested. Later, CPM workers and others protested against the action of police officials.
