Ernakulam: Hours after Cherian Philip ended his two-decade-long political association with Left Democratic Front (LDF), the Kerala State President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) PC Chacko told Mathrubhumi.com that CPM made a mistake by carrying him and it should be a lesson to all political parties while receiving new members.
“Cherian is a publicity seeker as he does any damn thing for publicity. After all, he is not a public figure and he does not even have a single follower. When he leaves a party, only he goes out; no one else will follow him. His arrival in Congress or detachment from LDF would not make any political impact. He did not hold any responsible position ever in his life. CPM in its mission to form an anti-Congress alliance trusted Cherian, but it was a blunder. In fact, it must be an eye opener to all political parties,” said Chacko.
He also said that Congress workers are unhappy with the current leadership and many have joined NCP recently. “Even on Friday, as many as 60 Congress workers have been given membership in Kozhikode. NCP does not want leaders as they are concerned only about positions. However, if a grass-root level worker joins a party, he will bring along a number of his followers too. When KPCC office-bearers were selected, Sudhakaran had a list of 100 members and he had to cut it short drastically. NCP cannot have so many presidents and vice presidents like Congress, we need workers at the grass root level. It is our strength,” added Chacko.
He also urged Congress party leaders to think about what they have gained by taking Cherian back. “In fact Congress has no political role to play as they failed completely in forming an anti-BJP alliance. Who is the President of the Congress party? Is Sonia Gandhi the president? Then why KPCC President Sudhakaran meets only Rahul Gandhi. There is no system in the Congress party and the much hyped arrival of Priyanka Gandhi to the forefront has not made any difference. In fact, she couldn't even win a panchayat election,” added Chacko.
