Alappuzha: CPM has postponed Alappuzha district conference in the wake of the surge in Covid cases across the state. It is learnt that the conference scheduled for January 28, 29 and 30 has now been postponed. CPM District Secretary R Nazar said that it is not appropriate to host the conference when the Covid-19 cases are increasing. He added that the new schedule for the conference will be announced later.
The decision to postpone the conference was taken after Nazar held a brief conversation with CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Earlier, those events related to the conference were cancelled following the criticism on hosting the event amid the Covid crisis. The opposition parties as well as those inside CPM questioned whether the party should continue the district conferences.
The party also came under criticism in the way they handled the Thiruvananthapuram district conference. On Friday, CPM concluded the district conference in Kasaragod after the High Court issued an order directing to cancel all events attended by more than 50 people.
