New Delhi: Congress veteran and former MP KV Thomas has been denied permission to attend a seminar organised as part of the CPM 23rd Party Congress in Kannur. Thomas had written to Sonia Gandhi requesting permission to attend the seminar.

Earlier, MP Shashi Tharoor's request was also rejected based on the opinion of KPCC and the MPs from the state.

There is no need to override the opinion of the KPCC which said the leaders shall not be permitted to attend the seminar, opined the party high command.

However, both leaders were not ready to agree with the KPCC and approached the national leadership.

The UPA government had ruled the country with the cooperation of all. We passed the food security act in this manner. In this situation, I sought Sonia Gandhi’s permission to attend the CPM party congress. KC Venugopal also phoned me and discussed some matters, said KV Thomas.
