Palakkad: In an important development to the Shajahan murder case at Marutharode here, police have seized three swords hidden by the accused. The officials have also recorded the arrest of accused Sujeesh, Shabharesh, Aneesh, and Naveen (allegedly the key conspirator behind the crime).

Shajahan was hacked to death on August 14 night and autopsy report revealed that the person died due to excessive bleeding from the deep wound sustained on his leg. The victim also sustained attack on his neck and leg.

Meanwhile, district police chief R Vishwanath elaborated on the motive behind the act. According to him, discord and personal rivalry led to the murder. The issues started from the time Shajahan took up the role of branch secretary. The accused had displeasure over his activities which turned into enmity.

Shajahan had reportedly expressed disagreement with the accused regarding tying rakhi, installation of flex boards on Sree Krishna Jayanti and Ganesholsavam. They had a verbal spat on August 14 too. All these led to murder, he said.

CPM accused BJP for the murder. While BJP refuted saying it has no connection with the accused and factionalism within CPM resulted in the murder. However, police have not yet given an official comment on the political affiliation of the accused arrested in the case.

Some of the accused had distanced from CPM due to difference of opinion with Shajahan. On the other hand, it is not clear whether those who distanced developed ties with any other party.

It is learnt that each of the accused had different issues with Shajahan. The police are probing whether more accused are involved to ascertain who instigated and orchestrated the crime.
