George M Thomas-CPM local committee member Shejin and Joysna Mary
Kozhikode: With reports on the decision by CPM leader and former Thiruvambady MLA George M Thomas to take action against DYFI leader Shejin for his interfaith marriage, the party unit received severe flak on social media.
Things escalated to the next level as Thomas even referred to a CPM pamphlet issued to college cadres during September 2021 which stated communal forces are luring educated women in colleges to extremism but does not directly refer Love Jihad.
However, the comments made by Thomas received flak on social media and the CPM Kozhikode unit intervened. It termed the remark of Thomas as tongue slip.
Later, Thomas himself clarified that though interfaith marriage hurt religious sentiments, there is nothing like Love Jihad. He also added that he supports the same stand taken by the district unit.
Meanwhile, Kozhikode unit alleged that the matter triggered a controversy due to some sections.
