Thiruvananthapuram: CPM has formed a two-member committee to look into the 'confusion' regarding the candidate selection in Thrikkakara byelection. Central committee member AK Balan and state committee member TP Ramakrishnan will look into the matter.

The CPM state committee fears that the factional activities still continue in Ernakulam district which led the party district leadership to cause confusion by leaking KS Arun Kumar's name initially. Media, quoting sources in the party, had reported that Arun was the CPM candidate for the poll. Party members even started campaigning for him while the leadership announced the name of Dr Jo Joseph.

Stating CPM never announced the name of Arun officially and the party members were misled by the media, district leadership defended the 'change'.

Leaders P Rajeeve and M Swaraj were actively involved in the decision making.

The committee will also look into why LDF couldn't gather the number of votes it expected.
