Resignation letter of Asharaf
Kochi: A CPM councillor in Kochi corporation resigned from the party. CPM Mattancherry local committee member MHM Asharaf, councillor of sixth division, resigned from the party alleging that he was not considered in the election to the standing committee.
Asharaf announced that he left the party after casting his vote in the election of chairman. He made it clear that he would not continue in the councillor post and would support UDF. Currently, both LDF and UDF have 33 members each. LDF is ruling the corporation with the support of two UDF rebels.

Asharaf had opposed the decision of CPM to give the town planning standing committee chairman post to independent councillor Sanil Mon who supported the LDF. Though Asharaf requested the party to consider him for this post as he is a senior member, CPM ignored him.
Following this, Asharaf nullified his vote in the election of standing committee members and LDF lost the PWD standing committee. With this, UDF gained majority in the PWD committee. RSP member Sunitha Dixon will be the chairperson of the committee in the first two years and then leave the post for Congress member.
BJP has decided their district secretary Priya Prashanth to the tax appeal committee chairperson post. Health standing committee chairman post will be given to League rebel candidate T K Ashar who supported LDF.
Development affairs standing committee will be shared between CPM member P R Reneesh and CPI member C A Shakeer. Welfare committee chairperson post will be held by Janata Dal (S) member Sheeba Lal first and then CPM member C D Valsala Kumari.
