CPM candidate, who died in road accident yesterday, scores landslide win in Malappuram

Saheera Banu

Tirur: LDF candidate Saheera Banu who died in a road accident on Tuesday secured a huge victory in the local body election. Saheera Banu (50) who contested in ward 15 of Thalakkad grama panchayat here under the LDF ticket won with a majority against her rival.

Saheera won with a majority of 248 votes while her opponent independent candidate secured only 236 votes.

On Thursday evening, Saheera and her nephew met with an accident after their bike collided with a car near Parassery here. She succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday around 3 pm.

Saheera is a local committee member of CPM and the director of Thalakkad Vanitha Society and former panchayat president.

She had been the panchayat president in Thalakkad in 2000 and 2010. She lost the last election in Pookaitha by eight votes.
