CPM can join UDF, like in Tamil Nadu: KM Shaji

Dubai: Indian Union Muslim League leader KM Shaji said that his party’s alliance with the Congress is an ideological bond. He was responding to the remarks of CPM state secretary MV Govindan, who called for a broad political alliance with the League to fight communalism. However, Govindan had said that it was not an invitation for the League to join the LDF.

Rejecting his offer, Shaji said that CPM could join UDF instead, like they did in Tamil Nadu (hinting at affiliation to the front led by DMK). "We shall work together. But the League doesn’t think Kerala is the end of the world. Our affiliation with the Congress has national importance. There is no point in telling this to CPM leaders as they don’t have the capacity to understand it," mocked Shaji while attending an event organised by KMCC Thrissur district committee in Dubai.

According to the former MLA, the invitation of the CPM leader is not surprising. "IUML is an energetic organisation. It gained trust and authenticity over the years with the support of loyal followers and leaders. Hence, there is no need to question the kind heart of MV Govindan," he added.

Unfortunately for the government, there is no flood or Covid-19. It lost popularity. That is also another reason for the invitation, Shaji said.
