Kannur: In a remarkable move, the CPM and the BJP on Saturday decided to end their prolonged political conflict in Kannur district.

The decision was taken at a peace meeting held between the CPM and BJP here today. CPM state Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, CPM District Secretary P Jayarajan, BJP state President Kummanam Rajasekharan, RSS leader Gopalan Kutty and district president Ranjith took part in the meeting.

The leaders pledged to take effective measures to curb recurrence of violent incidents.

Both the parties will give strict instructions to their cadres to refrain from conflicts. If any kind of disputes emerge, the regional units should ensure that the issue does not snowball into a clash.

To pass on the peace message, both the parties will convene meeting of grass-root level workers under each regional unit.

District-level leaders of both parties will hold a meeting of party cadres in Payyannur and Thalassery, which has witnessed political clashes in the recent times. Payyannur meeting is scheduled on August 11.
