CPI-Congress clash at Alappuzha: Police register case, hartal in five panchayats

Charummoodu: In the wake of clashes between CPI-Congress workers in Alappuzha, the police registered case against individuals in both camps.

Clashes erupted the other day after CPM workers erected flagpole in front of Congress block committee office. Congress workers removed the pole but CPM workers once again erected it. The members of both camp had heated exchanges and issued threats. Authorities of Revenue Divisional Office intervened to remove the flagpole but CPM workers were not ready. By evening the matter escalated and ended up in clashes. Around 25 individuals including cops were injured.

The police have registered four cases for destroying Congress office and attacking cops. Around 40 individuals who could be identified in the clash were booked. It is learnt that some are already in custody but police have not officially confirmed this.

Meanwhile, Congress have called for a hartal in five panchayats on Thursday.
