Kerala vaccinated 24 lakh people in a week: Health minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George informed that over 24-lakh people have been vaccinated within a week in the state. A total of 24,16,706 people have been vaccinated from Monday to Sunday.

Initially, the vaccination drive was slow due to shortage of vaccines, but with the availability of more doses it became faster. 2,54,409 people were vaccinated on Monday, 99,528 on Tuesday, 2,42,422 on Wednesday, 4,08,632 on Thursday, 5,60,515 on Friday, 5,26,246 on Saturday and 3,24,954 on Sunday.

There were 1,409 vaccination centres, including 1,220 government centres and 189 private centres. A total of 2,42,66,857 people in the state have been vaccinated with both doses so far. Of these, 1,75,79,206 were given the first dose and 66,87,651 were given the second dose.

Five-lakh doses of the Covishield vaccine have arrived at Ernakulam on Sunday. It is being distributed to other districts as well, she added.
