Kochi: The High Court intervened in the government decision to reduce charge of RT-PCR tests to Rs 500. The court cancelled the move and directed the government to revise the rates. It also ruled out the government’s direction to take action against the laboratories that deny service.
Earlier, the government had reduced the RT-PCR test rates to Rs 500. The High Court intervened in this as the lab owners filed petitions questioning this move.
The court directed to settle the matter after discussing with private labs and to decide upon an acceptable rate. Pointing out the Supreme Court’s order that the government cannot take decisions unilaterally, the High Court single bench cancelled the government’s action reducing the rate of RT-PCR test to Rs 500.
The government had also issued an order stating that action must be taken as per the Disaster Management Act against the private labs that conduct tests at Rs 500. This order was also ruled out by the court. The rate of RT-PCR tests will increase in the state following this.
