Kerala logs 32,801 new Covid cases on Friday; TPR at 19.22 percent

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 32,801 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed the health department through a press release. With 179 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 20,313. Test positivity rate recorded at 19.22 percent.

The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram - 4,032, Thrissur- 3,953, Eranakulam – 3,627, Kozhikode – 3,362, Kollam- 2,828, Palakkad - 2,727, Thiruvananthapuram- 2,255, Alappuzha- 2,188, Kannur- 1,984, Kottayam- 1,877 Pathanamthitta- 1,288, Idukki- 1,125, Wayanad- 961, and Kasargod-594.

A total of 1,70,703 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 3,09,56,143 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

144 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 31,281 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1,260 patients remains unidentified.

The district - wise statistics of contact cases: Malappuram- 3926, Thrissur- 3935, Eranakulam – 3,539, Kozhikode – 3,327, Kollam- 2,822, Palakkad- 1,848, Thiruvananthapuram- 2,150, Alappuzha- 2,151, Kannur- 1,905, Kottayam- 1797, Pathanamthitta- 1,255, Idukki- 1,105, Wayanad – 944 and Kasaragod – 577.

116 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them 25 were from Kannur, 18 from Pathanamthitta, 13 each from Palakkad and Kasargod, 11 from Wayanad, seven from Eranakulam, six each from Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram, five each from Kollam and Alappuzha, two each from Kottayam, Idukki and Kozhikode and one from Malappuram.

Meanwhile, 18,573 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 1,258, Kollam – 2,325, Pathanamthitta - 545, Alappuzha – 1,230, Kottayam - 745, Idukki - 616, Eranakulam – 1,843, Thrissur – 2,490, Palakkad – 2,190, Malappuram – 1,948, Kozhikode – 1,524, Wayanad - 220, Kannur – 1191 and Kasaragod – 448.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,95,254 in the state. 37,30,198 were recovered from the disease so far.

4,98,491 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,69,946 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 28,845 people are in hospitals. 3,101 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.

The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 8 in 353 wards of 70 local bodies. Strict restrictions are enforced in these places.
