Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state government may withdraw the weekend lockdown as it failed to bring down the Covid 19 cases and the test positivity rate .

The public and traders are up-in-arms against the measures implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19. They termed the measures unscientific as people started flocking public places on other days. By taking this into account, the government may withdraw weekend lockdown.

In the meantime, PKD Nambiar, a Keralite from Delhi, had approached the apex court against the government's move to relax restrictions for celebrating Bakrid. The Supreme Court had also sought explanation from the government in this regard.

The government told the court that the relaxations were given after consultation with experts. The state government denied the allegations and stated that shops were already allowed to open and the present relaxations are not related to the festival.
