Covid vaccine: All of target group aged above 45 years receive 1st dose in Wayanad, Kasaragod

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George informed that the first dose of vaccine has been administered to all of the target group aged above 45 years in Wayanad and Kasaragod districts. According to the available data, 2,72,333 people in Wayanad and 3,50,648 in Kasaragod, who were aged above 45 years, were included in the target group. The minister said that 100 percent of these people have received the first dose.

If anyone aged above 45 years are yet to receive the vaccine, they should contact the health workers, the minister directed. The vaccination for those who are aged above 45 years started from April 1. The minister congratulated both the districts for achieving the target soon.

Wayanad has a notably large population of tribal people. The vaccine was administered in their villages through a special mission with the help of mobile teams. Department of Tribal Affairs, Kudumbashree and Asha workers were also part of this mission.

In Wayanad, 56% of people aged above 45 years received both doses of the vaccine. Among the age group of 18 years, 67% received first dose and 28% received both the doses till date.

In case of Kasaragod, achieving the target in the endosulfan-hit regions was a big challenge. However, 54% of the 45-years age group were given both doses of vaccine. Among those aged above 18 years, 53% received first dose and 23% received second dose too.
