Covid transmission: Next 3 weeks to be crucial in state, says Heath Dept
Thiruvananthapuram: The health department instructed that all should be more vigilant as the COVID-19 transmission has intensified in other states. The daily Covid cases increased to 3500 after election. Almost all people have been involved in the election campaigning and so the coming three weeks will be crucial in the state. The health department warned that all should be alert considering the gravity of the situation.
The department also informed that the ‘Back to Bascis’ campaign will be strengthened as the Covid cases keep multiplying. People should remember the basic lessons like using soap, mask and maintaining social distancing. Mask should be worn properly covering mouth and nose. Strict action will be taken against those who fail to wear masks. Everyone should clean hands with sanitizer or soap frequently.
It has been decided to increase the daily testing rate also. RT-PCR tests have been increased. A total of 60,554 tests were performed the other day including 33,699 RT-PCR tests. One week quarantine for those who come from outside the state also has been made mandatory.
As per Serosurveillance survey, only 10.76 percent of the people in Kerala have been infected with Covid. 89 percent of the people are still not infected with the disease and needs to maintain caution and alert. Those above 45 years are requested to take vaccines as early as possible. 37,56,751 people had the first dose of the Covid vaccine in the state and 4,47,233 people have taken the second jab too. A total of 42,03,984 persons have been vaccinated in the state.
Those who were engaged in election works and are experiencing cold, cough or body pain are requested to immediately undergo Covid test. The elderly and those with severe infections may be affected seriously once infected and hence the health department requested all to take up the 'Back to Basics' campaign very seriously.
