Covid surge continues in Kerala; records 885 new cases on Friday, 968 recoveries
Thiruvananthapuram: As the surge continues, Kerala reported 885 fresh Covid cases on Friday. However, giving a little solace, the number of patients recovered from the disease was higher than the number of newly reported cases. 968 patients recovered from the disease on Friday.
Meanwhile, out of the newly confirmed cases, 724 were through contact. The infection source of 56 cases is unknown. 64 of the new Covid positive patients had returned from abroad while 68 had returned from other states.
Also, the total number of Covid cases in the state touched 16,995. At present there are 9,371 active cases in state.
24 health workers were confirmed with Covid-19 on Friday. 4 deaths were also reported – Thiruvananthapuram Chirayankeezhu native Murukan (46), Kasaragod native Hairunneesa (48), Kasaragod Chittari native Madhavan (68) and Alappuzha Kalavoor native Mariyamma (85).
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram 167, Kollam 133, Alapppuzha 44, Pathanamthitta 23, Kottayam 50, Idukki 29, Ernakulam 69, Thrissur 33, Palakkad 58, Malappuram 58, Kozhikode 82, Kannur 18, Wayanad 15 and Kasaragod 106.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram 101, Kollam 54, Alapppuzha 49, Pathanamthitta 81, Kottayam 74, Idukki 96, Ernakulam 151, Thrissur 12, Palakkad 63, Malappuram 24, Kozhikode 66, Kannur 108, Wayanad 21 and Kasaragod 68.
In the last 24 hours, 25,160 samples were tested in the state. 1,56,767 people are presently under observation. Among them 9,297 are in hospitals. 1,346 people were admitted to hospitals on Friday.
In total, 3,38,038 samples have been sent for tests so far out of which the results of 9,185 are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance 1,09,635 samples were collected from priority groups out of which 1,05,433 came out negative.
The number of hotspots in the state increased to 453.
