Guruvayur temple witnesses 145 weddings on Sunday despite lockdown curbs

Rush outside the Melpathur Auditorium

Guruvayur: It seems that lockdown like restrictions announced on Sunday has not affected the marriages in Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple. The temple witnessed a huge rush as 145 marriages took place on Sunday.

For each wedding, only 10 members were allowed. Melpathur auditorium was arranged for accommodating the brides, grooms and their relatives. They were sent to the three wedding halls in turn. During ‘thaali charthal’(tying wedding chain on bride's neck) of each wedding, the number of individuals that can gather near the temple doors was restricted to 30.

Temple police and Devaswom security officials ensured strict compliance with COVID protocol.

Notably, Devaswom had informed that marriages and darshan will not be disrupted amid the lockdown. The vehicles carrying devotees to Guruvayur temple with labels posted in it were not blocked by the police. Meanwhile, some family members including brides and grooms reached Guruvayur on Saturday to avoid the chances of interruptions in the journey.
