Covid: Police to maintain tight vigil in state; strict restrictions in place

Thiruvananthapuram: Police will strengthen vigil in the state in the wake of increasing cases of Covid infections by regulating large gatherings and restricting unnecessary travel during night time. The state police chief directed to bring the complete police force into action for scrutiny. The regulations will be made strict till February 10. Markets which are prone to have large gatherings, common assembling places will be strictly monitored by police. Travel during night will be allowed only if necessary.

ADGP Vijay Sakhare has been given charge of regulating law and order during Covid restrictions. Permission has been given to use discretionary powers in some places. The district police can also use the service of battalion or the special unit of the police force if needed.

Police will jointly work with sectoral magistrates in places where they are present. Highway patrol, control room vehicles and other police vehicles will also do the rounds. The police control rooms of various districts and of the state police chief have been alerted. Daily leaves are strictly monitored and would be approved only for exigencies. Police officials have to maintain self vigil for their safety, states the police directive.
