Kozhikode: As the number of Covid cases is rising uncontrollably in the state, there are concerns about the medical facilities available for the treatment of Covid patients in serious condition. There is a shortage of ICUs and ventilators for Covid patients in government hospitals. There are only less than 10 beds available in six districts.
According to the reports in the Covid Alert Portal, there are no ICUs or ventilators available in the hospitals in the Kollam district. 62 ventilators and 94 ICUs are fully occupied.
There are only 5 ICU beds and one ventilator available in the government hospitals in Thrissur. There are only 3 ICU beds remaining in the government hospitals in Idukki, 4 in Kasargod, 7 in Kottayam, and 9 in Malappuram.
The condition in Ernakulam, the district with the highest number of patients, is also poor. 4048 people tested positive in the district the previous day alone. There are only 18 ICU beds and 10 ventilators available in the government hospitals in Ernakulam.
