Covid patient votes violating protocol; 230+ voters, 5 officials in quarantine

Kottiyam (Kollam): More than 230 voters and 5 polling officials were asked to undergo quarantine after a Covid patient violated the time allotted and cast vote.

The 72-year-old Covid patient cast her vote at booth number 124 at the CVMLPS in Thani of Iravipuram constituency at around 11 am. A resident of the St Joseph Nagar here, she arrived to cast vote along with her husband.

She was confirmed Covid positive on March 28 and had been under quarantine. Despite the facility for voting for Covid patients arranged in booth from 6 pm to 7 pm, she violated it and arrived in the morning.

The health department officials have filed a police complaint in this regard.

The incident came to light after an Asha worker reported the incident after the patient returned casting vote by 12.30 pm. Soon, the polling booth was disinfected. The voters who cast vote around the same time were identified and asked to undergo quarantine, health officials said.
