COVID death toll nearing 2000 in Kerala


Among the people who died of COVID-19 in the state, 73 percent were aged above 60 years. Also, 446 patients were aged between 41 and 59 years.

Thiruvananthapuram: With 28 more persons dying of COVID-19 as confirmed on Friday, the total death toll in the state has touched 1997. The total number of infected people in the state also rose to 5,51,669. The death rate is at 0.36 percent.

Among the people who died of COVID-19 in the state, 73 percent were aged above 60 years. Also, 446 patients were aged between 41 and 59 years. Among the people who died of COVID, 91.93 percent contracted the disease through contact.

Most number of people died of the pandemic in Thiruvananthapuram district. A total of 510 deaths were reported in the district. With 203 deaths, Malappuram is at second spot. Lowest death toll is in Idukki with only 11 deaths.

Meanwhile, 6,028 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the state on Friday. 60,365 samples were tested within 24 hours and the test positivity rate was at 9.98 percent.
